Smoky Mountains Ghost
On a routine shoot in 2011 I was taking photos at Laurel Falls in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
Nothing really stood out to me at the time. I take a lot of photos and this one did not stand out to me at the time.
Fast forward to 2015 and the launch of the new SmokyPhotos. As I began going through images both old and new with a very critical eye, I noticed a strange anomaly in this photo that I took at Laurel Falls.
In the splash at the bottom of the falls, there seems to be a man seated at a small table. The silhouette shows remarkable detail and I was taken aback. The more I studied the picture the more defined the spectre appeared. A real Smoky Mountains ghost!
Is it an illusion? Probably. Sometimes random collections of objects can be interpreted by our brains as something more familiar. But even if there is a logical explanation the resulting image is very interesting at the least and astounding at best.
I would like to think that it is a mountain spirit bathing in the living waters of the falls. Maybe it is the poor soul of someone that toppled off the rocks and lost their life here. Maybe it is a mountain gnome or some other mystical creature. Or maybe it is an angel descend from the heavens to drink from the fount of Laurel Falls.
I truly believe that the Great Smoky Mountains are magic, that’s for sure. So I am comfortable about saying that I believe that there is more to this photo than rocks placed here and there. It’s a belief that makes me comfortable with my affection for this place.
But I will let the reader judge for themselves. What do you think about magic in the mountains? Please leave a comment and let me know what you think!
